A MAN killed his partner’s “perfect” 12-week-old boy after shaking the baby and smashing his head in a “violent” assault.

Kane Mitchell, 31, was found guilty of murdering little Teddie Mitchell in the flat he shared with the boy’s mother, Lucci Smith, in St Netos, Cambridgeshire.

And today at Cambridge Crown Court, Mitchell was convicted of murdering the infant in a “violent” assault.

Meanwhile Smith, 29, was convicted of cruelty to a child – after describing Teddie as “a perfect little baby” while giving evidence at her trial.

The court heard Teddie's injuries were consistent with being "gripped hard", "shaken vigorously", and "having his head struck against a hard surface", according to the BBC.

While Mitchell was not Teddie’s father, the pair raised him as if that was the case, the court heard.

Prosecutor Karim Khalil QC told the court Teddie was “subjected to a violent assault” in the flat on November 1, 2019 – and died just ten days later.

Mr Khalil said: “He received fatal injuries as a result of being gripped hard, shaken vigorously and having his head struck against a hard surface.”

Jurors heard that Teddie suffered fractures to his collar bone and a fractured skull as well as rib fractures – and he later died from serious brain injuries.

The injuries little Teddie suffered “would have led to Teddie screaming in pain… up to a point when he would have become unconscious”, the court heard.

Mr Khalil said Smith was “charged with failing to act once it was obvious that Teddie was very seriously ill”.

He added that Smith had been urged to “call an ambulance immediately” at around 2.30pm – but waited another 30 minutes to dial 999.
